A Search Assignment

A Search Assignment Following Tony’s instructions Tony Vermonte sends Gilbert Coney to locate Ullman, a man connected to Frank Minna’s final destination. Gilbert accepts the task despite lacking experience as an investigator. A dangerous lead The assignment places Gilbert close to a crime scene and in the path of the police. The men do not know enough about Ullman or the larger scheme to protect their colleague.

A Body Already Found

A Body Already Found Arrival after the killing Gilbert reaches Ullman’s location and finds him already dead. Police have been alerted and intercept Gilbert as he leaves the scene. Circumstance becomes suspicion Gilbert’s presence supplies an immediate explanation for the police, though Lionel believes his friend would not have killed Ullman. The investigation’s first attempted lead becomes a liability.

The Precinct Call

The Precinct Call News through Loomis Loomis tells Lionel that Gilbert Coney is being held at a Manhattan precinct on suspicion of Ullman’s murder. Lionel learns the news while trying to reconstruct the case alone. The team’s options shrink Lionel cannot immediately reach Gilbert or secure legal help. The arrest leaves the remaining men divided between pursuing clues and managing the consequences of a suspect in custody.

Five Nights in Custody

Five Nights in Custody A difficult detention Gilbert remains in custody for five nights, dealing with the ordinary humiliations of the lockup while his friends struggle to assist him. Evidence against him does not establish the crime. Loyalty tested by absence Gilbert later complains that the others abandoned him. His release does not erase the strain; it reveals the gap between their affection and their capacity to protect one another.

Release Without Resolution

Release Without Resolution Lack of evidence Gilbert is freed because the case against him lacks evidence. Detective Lucius Seminole apologizes to the men for his earlier suspicions. A friendship resumes Gilbert returns to L&L and joins the poker game, but the arrest remains part of the group’s shared history. His survival restores the team’s practical balance without restoring its old innocence.
